About
About the Alexandria Chapter
The Alexandria Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America is a conservation-focused outdoor recreation club located at 2729 Garrisonville Road, Stafford, VA 22556. Nestled on 211 wooded acres in Virginia's countryside, our chapter is dedicated to the national league's founding mission: "Defenders of Soil, Woods, Water, Air, and Wildlife."
As part of the Izaak Walton League of America — founded nationally in 1922 — the Alexandria Chapter carries forward over a century of commitment to conserving outdoor America for future generations. Over the past 100 years, the League has been an extraordinary champion and defender of the nation's soil, air, woods, waters, and wildlife. We accomplish this mission through active conservation programs, outdoor education, youth development, and responsible recreation.
Our Mission
We focus on encouraging safe and responsible shooting sports, archery, camping, and fishing practices. We promote conservation and respect of the natural resources of the United States through education and interactive opportunities for members and the community. Our goal is to ensure that America's natural resource base is protected, managed, and used to assure quality of life in the long run, accomplished by emphasizing the hands-on role that individuals can play in habitat protection and restoration.

Conservation in Action
The Alexandria Chapter has a proud history of conservation work in our community. We worked to protect Huntley Meadows, a 1,261-acre wetland used by bald eagles for nesting habitat. We've received IWLA Endowment grants to improve and better manage the land and waters on our property, including restoring land impacted by storm water runoff, tracking activities to ensure no negative impact on the area, and partnering with local high schools to teach students about the importance of good water quality.
General Membership Meetings
The chapter holds general membership meetings on the third Sunday of each month at 2:00 PM in the clubhouse. Board of Directors meetings convene at noon on the same day, preceding the general meeting. All members are encouraged to attend and participate in chapter governance.
Youth & Scouting Programs
The Alexandria Chapter proudly sponsors the following youth organizations, providing young people with opportunities to develop outdoor skills, conservation awareness, and community leadership in a safe and supportive environment:
- Scouts BSA Troop 142G
- Cub Scout Pack 142
- Girl Scout Troop 44
The Izaak Walton League of America
The Izaak Walton League of America is one of the nation's oldest and most respected conservation organizations. Named after the 17th-century English author and angler Izaak Walton, the League was founded in 1922 by 54 anglers in Chicago who were alarmed by the pollution and degradation of their favorite fishing streams. The Association of Izaak Walton League Chapters of Virginia was formed August 8, 1929. Today, the League has chapters in communities across America working to conserve our natural resources for future generations.
