Hunting
Hunting
The Alexandria Chapter's 211 acres of property offer hunting opportunities for members during Virginia's hunting seasons. All hunting on chapter property is subject to Virginia state hunting regulations and additional chapter-specific safety requirements.

Hunter Safety Brief — Required
Before hunting on chapter property, all hunters must complete the online Hunter Safety Brief and quiz. This is a mandatory requirement — no exceptions. The safety brief covers chapter-specific rules, property boundaries, no-hunting zones, and check-in/check-out procedures.
An additional permission slip from the Chapter is required, which is obtained by successfully completing the hunting quiz.
Check-In / Check-Out Procedure
All hunters must follow this procedure every time they hunt on the property:
- Park in the parking lot — do not park on roads or near ranges
- Check in at the kiosk by the caretaker's house — sign the log
- Place a pin on the map showing your intended hunting location
- Raise your flag to indicate you are on the property
- When finished hunting: lower your flag and sign out before leaving
Virginia State Regulations
All hunters must follow Virginia state hunting regulations in addition to chapter rules. Key requirements include:
- Valid Virginia hunting license required
- Hunter Education required for ages 12-15 and first-time Virginia hunters
- Observe all season dates, bag limits, and legal methods
- Follow Virginia's hunter orange requirements during firearms seasons
No Hunting Areas
No Hunting Area maps and property grid maps are available at the hunter's kiosk and in the member documents area. These maps identify safety zones around ranges, buildings, the campground, ponds, and other areas where hunting is prohibited.
Hikers & Other Users
Hikers and other property users should check with the Caretaker during hunting season to determine which areas of the property are being actively hunted. Wear bright colors when walking the property during hunting season.
Hunter Education
Virginia requires Hunter Education certification for hunters ages 12-15 and for first-time Virginia hunting license applicants. The chapter supports hunter education through our Training & Education programs. See the Education page for details on available courses.
