The Alexandria Chapter is committed to promoting safe, responsible, and knowledgeable participation in the shooting sports and outdoor recreation. Our training and education programs serve both members and the broader community.

NRA Courses

The chapter offers NRA-certified training courses through qualified chapter instructors. These courses provide foundational and advanced instruction in firearms safety, marksmanship, and responsible gun ownership. Course offerings are scheduled periodically — check the chapter calendar for upcoming dates.

All firearms training is limited to persons legally allowed to purchase and own firearms under ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and all applicable federal and state laws.

Virginia Hunter Education

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) requires Hunter Education certification for:

• Ages 12-15: Must complete Hunter Education before purchasing a hunting license
• First-time Virginia hunters: Must complete Hunter Education before hunting in the Commonwealth

America's Rifle Course

The chapter periodically hosts the America's Rifle Course, an NRA-sanctioned program designed to develop fundamental rifle marksmanship skills. Check the chapter calendar and competitions page for upcoming sessions.

RSO Certification

Range Safety Officer (RSO) certification courses are taught semiannually at the clubhouse. RSO certification qualifies members to supervise range activities, support competitions, and earn volunteer credit. See the RSO Information page for full details on certification requirements and benefits.

Outdoor Education Mission

As part of the Izaak Walton League's mission, the Alexandria Chapter promotes outdoor education and responsible recreation. Through our youth programs, scouting partnerships, conservation activities, and training events, we strive to pass along knowledge and appreciation of the outdoors to the next generation.
