Work Party
Work Party
Chapter work parties are a cornerstone of our all-volunteer organization. Through regular work parties, members maintain the chapter's 211-acre property, keeping our ranges, grounds, facilities, and trails in excellent condition for everyone to enjoy.
Schedule
Work parties are held on the Saturday before the General Membership Meeting (typically the third Saturday of each month).
- Time: 8:00 AM to Noon
- Lunch: Provided after the work party
- Arrive at 8:00 AM ready to work — assignments are given at the start
Typical Activities
Work party activities vary by season and need, but commonly include:
- Grass trimming and cutting — mowing ranges, trails, and common areas
- Tree cutting — removing fallen trees, clearing sightlines, and managing growth
- Property cleanup — trash removal, facility cleaning, and general grounds maintenance
- Range maintenance — target replacement, berm maintenance, and equipment repair
- Building maintenance — clubhouse, kiosks, and outbuildings
- Conservation projects — invasive species removal, native plantings, stream bank stabilization
What to Bring
- Work gloves — essential for most tasks
- Beverages — stay hydrated, especially in warm weather
- Appropriate clothing — dress for outdoor work and weather conditions
- No personal equipment needed — the chapter provides tools and supplies
Service Hour Requirements
- New members must complete 4 hours of service through work parties within 6 months of joining. Failure to meet this requirement will result in suspended privileges.
- All members: Completing 8 volunteer hours earns a $50 reduction on annual dues
Special Accommodations
Members who need special accommodations for work party participation should contact the caretaker 2-3 days in advance. There are tasks available for members of all abilities — not all work party activities require heavy physical labor.
Additional Volunteer Opportunities
Can't make the scheduled work party? Members can earn service hours any day by contacting the caretaker to arrange individual or small group volunteer work. There is always something to be done on a 211-acre property.
